Turtle Hill WildsTURTLE HILL WILDS

Cindy and Charles Ramseyer

Turtle Hill in Blanchardville, WI, is our home. Sustainable land stewardship, custom millwork, wildflower gardens, and beekeeping are our passions and joys. Turtle Hill is situated along the west branch of the Pecatonica River in Wisconsin, in the heart of the Driftless Area of the upper Midwest. Six acres of land is used for homesteading, with a greenhouse, an organic vegetable and herb garden, a wildflower nursery of full sun, dappled sun, and full shade native plant production gardens, a mushroom yard, and an eight-hive bee yard. Eighteen acres of diverse habitat managed using sustainable forestry practices surrounds this inhabited core.

Our wildflower nursery currently offers 45 species of wildflowers that we sell in the spring and fall market season. We also use our plants and seed in our restoration and land stewardship business. We also custom grow tree seedlings and design and collect seed mixes for restorations.

From our two apiaries we harvest and sell raw honey. My bee yards are placed smack in the middle of restorations of large acreage to ensure that the honey is of wildflower nectar. Depending on the season, this may be bramble flowers, tree or shrub flowers, or plant flowers. As the blossoms change through the seasons, so does the flavor and aroma of the honey. The surprise is always pleasurable. Our wildflower honey is also made into fruit and honey creams, honey cream, and creative honey-sweet jams and jellies inspired by wild fruits.

We grow wild mushrooms and wild greens, and provide these for gourmet restaurants and at farmers' markets as they come available seasonally.

Our forestry and land stewardship work here on-site and with landowners in the region yields sustainably harvested barn-dried lumber. We have both dimensional lumber and widths and lengths to speak to any artistic project. In stock currently are black cherry, black walnut, white ash, knotty white pine, red oak, black oak, and Hill's oak. The lumber is available year-round.
